My background in anthropology meant when I arrived to photography, it was with an already deep interest in understanding cultures different to my own.

I feel strongly that my artistic subjects should parallel my personal experience. The camera is a powerful tool, and many photographers fall into the trap of misrepresentation. To mitigate this, I explore topics which I have a personal connection to, or experience with. Under this umbrella, I explore themes of bodily experience, corporeality, physicality, ecstasy and suffering. I have a fascination with groups for whom intense pain and pleasure is an intricate part of their lives. I take an ethnographic and thoughtful approach to my projects, often spending months with one topic to truly understand an experience.

I have a strong interest in subcultures which are misunderstood, underrepresented and on the fringes of society. With my photographs, I hope to give these groups of people a voice, a history and a platform.
